iPhone and iPad App: Golf Mental Coach Preshot
What’s the one mental skill you must have during your preshot routine?
Focus or ability to attend to what’s important for the execution of a golf shot. You can’t hit a good shot when you are thinking about missing or are distracted by your own internal gremlins, for example.
How do you improve focus during your preshot routine-within that 30 secondsĀ when you plan and prepare for a golf shot?
It’s really simple and includes three steps…
- Know what cues to focus on when execution shots. Define the performance cues in your routine, such as picking a target or line.
- Be aware of your most common distractions. List the top five ways to get out of your routine, such as thinking about a past shot or thinking too much about the outcome.
- Refocus when you get away from your routine. Recognize when you get off-task or out of your routine and quickly refocus. Stopping and restating your routine is also a good option.
