Do You Have Difficulty Improving Your Golf Game?
Dr. Patrick Cohn, golf psychology expert and author of the “Golfer’s Mental Edge” CD program, teaches amateur to tour professional golfers how to improve their mental game of golf using golf psychology strategies developed over the last 20 years of his career.
In this week’s golf psychology session, mental game of golf expert and author of The Mental Game of Golf, Dr. Cohn, responds to a golfer who has taken a lot of golf lessons over the years but doesn’t improve. He tends to revert back to what is comfortable when playing.
“The fact that you are taking a lot of lessons and not seeing improvement says that maybe you’re not using the lessons in a way that’s going to help you improve. You can teach old dogs new tricks. Being that, there is a special way you have to approach this. Based on your comments that after two weeks trying out the new lesson and working on the new lesson you don’t see any improvement and then you go back to what’s comfortable”
“Here is the issue when learning something new, you tend to have to revert back into what we call a practice or training mindset. In other words you have to revert back to a beginning learner where it becomes very cognitive, you’re having to think about that move, you have to divert a lot of attention to changing old habits. That’s always the most difficult part for golfers making changes. They have developed specific habits with their swing, which allows you to swing freely, but at the same time, when you make changes it becomes very difficult to change those old habits.”

What are our students saying?
“WOW!!! What a week I had. I was able to perform with a confidence that allowed my style to shine through–no more entering the arena with that “deer in the headlights” look or feeling. I stopped evaluating myself while I was performing, and I actually left the arena after my patterns feeling like I had experienced a lot of fun. Thank you so much.”
